Why Wellness Gossip? May 16, 2008

We are constantly bombarded by crazy health claims and reports that tell us what we “should” or “need” to be doing to be healthy.

So, what’s the truth? How can I be healthy?

This blog will address these confusing issues by providing the following types of information:

1.  Facts.

There are some aspects of health that are concrete and can be applied to all persons. For instance; don’t eat lead paint chips, don’t heat plastic in the microwave (even if it says “microwave safe”) and organic produce contains more nutrients than their conventional counterparts.

2. Some other guy’s/girl’s opinion.

Yep, I love stealing good ideas (but I’ll give them credit for it). There are so many people out there doing amazing work. Some of them have left this life a couple thousand of years ago and others are doing groundbreaking work as we type. We can definitely learn a lot from each other if we share this wisdom. The Beatles said it best, “I’ll get by with a little help from my friends.”

3.  My own opinion.

I’m good enough, I’m smart enough and doggone it, people like me (Shout out to Stuart Smalley who provided me with counseling amidst my long lapse without health insurance). Of course, as far as your own personal wellness is concerned, you’re the best expert. However, I can tell you one thing for sure: wellness goes beyond your physical body.

So… I encourage you to open your heart and mind and take the information in. Sit with it a bit, discuss it, whatever you need- and then decide if it resonates with you. If it doesn’t, that’s okay. We’re all so beautifully different that one wellness prescription could never be applied to all persons. Honor this diversity. Take in what feels right to you-what you’re ready for at this time. Then, leave the rest. Come back to it later if you like- or not.

One of the first steps to wellness is to take responsibility- no matter your current condition. I encourage you to become active in your own wellness and spend some time to visit this blog. This blog can provide you with facts and ideas, but most importantly, it will invite and challenge you to continue on in your own journey to wholeness.

Peace and Blessings on your journey,

Aimee
